Traveling To China

This summer I will be traveling to the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen China. I'm going to be a studio artist, help teach children classes on the weekend and help with anything else around the studios. The Pottery Workshop is an amazing place with an awesome staff, they have already been really great and very helpful.

the Picture on the left is the main building and the right is a typical lunch served there. Needless to say I'm very excited for both.

here is a short blurb from their site about it:
"Jingdezhen PWS Experimental Factory is a newly created ceramics design studio and residential artists studio. It is situated on the site of an old National Porcelain Company, Sculpture Factory in Jingdezhen China. This Experimental Factory is surrounded by hundreds of small and independent craftsmen and artists with every kind of ceramic skill, clay producers, throwers, sculptors, mould makers, blue and white decorators, overglaze decorators, glaze and color shops, kiln firing workshops, brush makers, black smiths, box makers and shippers. Objects made here are from fingernail size to twelve feet high, all in porcelain. We are right in the middle of a hive of activity."

Jingdezhen is the "Porcelain Capital of the world" the entire city is centered around ceramics.

Raffle Fundraiser

My professors, Linda Arbuckle, Nan Smith, and Anna Calluori Holcombe, at the University of Florida have each donated a work of art to help raise funds to pay for my trip to china. Donating works and organizing the raffle was an amazing gesture and I feel very honored and grateful that they would do this for me. The department met at the Bistro in Gainesville for an end of the year lunch for everyone that was leaving town and I pulled the raffle tickets.

Winner of the Anna Calluori piece: TJ Erdahl
Winner of the Nan Smith porcelain teabowl: Kathleen Gunning
Winner of the Linda Arbuckle bowl: Barbara Brown.

Thank you to everyone who participated, it has really made a difference.
